  • JCDecaux, one of the world's largest outdoor advertising companies, announced today a strong start to the New Year. Over the last few weeks, the Company has achieved new contract wins and renewals totalling £125 million. Today, JCDecaux also confirmed that it had won the significant Rome subway contract.
  • European wins
  • Following the retention of the London transport billboard contract late last year, the Rome subway authority has confirmed that it has renewed its advertising sales contract with JCDecaux, worth some £35million in projected revenues over the next five years.

The Italian contract comprises 7,000 advertising sites across the Rome subway network, reaching an affluent commuting audience of 900,000 passengers per day. The JCDecaux tender, which includes the upgrading and illumination of many of the sites, beat competition from Jolly Pubblicita (Clear Channel), TDI (CBS-Viacom) and IGP, the market leader in transport advertising in Italy.

Elsewhere in Europe, recent portfolio wins have confirmed JCDecaux's position as the world's largest operator of airport advertising. The Warsaw and Portuguese airport authorities have both confirmed the renewal of contracts with the Company, worth £15million and £30million respectively.

The ANA-Aeroportos de Portugal contract covers seven airports with a combined annual passenger throughput of 18 million. During the lifetime of the contract, JCDecaux plans to install and develop over 500 advertising displays, with street furniture and new technology in and around the airport terminals.

New business in Australia

In Australia, it has been confirmed that JCDecaux has been appointed by the Metrolink to sell advertising space on the Yarra trams and shelter network. This contract was previously held by Adshel. Worth £25million over a 12-year period, the contract is one of the largest in Australia and firmly establishes JCDecaux as a key player in a marketplace that it entered just three years ago.

Also in Australia, JCDecaux has been appointed by Connex to operate the outdoor advertising portfolio on the Melbourne rail systems. The 15-year contract is worth £20million and was won from the incumbent Eye.

  • Commenting on the contracts Jean-Francois Decaux, Chairman and Co-Chief Executive Officer, said:
  • "The wins and renewals reflect an excellent start to a year which promises to be very exciting for JCDecaux worldwide. These are significant contracts both in terms of their size and their duration - providing attractive and secure revenue streams.
  • "In particular, the Melbourne wins demonstrate our determination to develop the business in Australia, following on from our street furniture successes in Sydney.
  • "We believe that these latest successes reflect our commitment to the constant improvement of the outdoor advertising environment."
