From June to August 2023, nearly half of the world's population, or about 3.8 billion people, experienced at least 30 days of extreme heat, aggravated by climate change, according to the NGO Climate Central. In this context of increasing heat, cities – and particularly city centers – are facing a problem related to the thermal comfort of users.
In addition to the context of global warming, several urban-related factors contribute to the creation of additional heat, which can no longer be dissipated or absorbed. This microclimatic phenomenon is known as the urban heat island effect.
We invite you to discover this strategic intelligence note, to learn more about the urban heat island phenomenon and discover a range of solutions already available to the city-making stakeholders to make public spaces more liveable.
