JCDecaux, the world's number one in airport advertising, announced today that a consortium made up of JCDecaux and UDC, Mexico's leading airport advertising company, has been awarded the advertising concessions for the nine airports operated by Aeroportuario del Sureste ("ASUR") in the south-eastern region of Mexico. ASUR's portfolio includes the major international airports in Cancun, Cozumel and Merida.
The eight-year contract, which commences in September 2001, covers all internal and external advertising units. The combination of JCDecaux's airport and street furniture expertise and UDC's local experience will allow the consortium to provide ASUR with advertising solutions that meet the specific requirements of the nine airports. The JCDecaux - UDC consortium won the contract against competition from international rivals, including Clear Channel's Eller Media.
Winning the ASUR contract strengthens JCDecaux's leading position in airport advertising and is consistent with its strategy of expanding its strong advertising network in the most attractive locations worldwide.
Commenting on the contract win Jean-Charles Decaux, Co-Chief Executive of JCDecaux, said: "Communication in airports is increasingly global and this contract makes it possible for JCDecaux to offer its advertisers a worldwide network of 149 airports. This latest win is consistent with our transport advertising strategy and strengthens our position in the rapidly expanding Latin American outdoor advertising market."
