- JCDecaux, one of the largest Outdoor Advertising companies in the world, has just won the street furniture concession for the city of Montevideo. This 15-year concession involves the supply, installation and operation of 2 620 units and as a result the marketing of 1 580 advertising faces.
- The installation of units will start in the second half of 2000. Following this announcement, Jean-Charles Decaux, Chief Executive Officer of the JCDecaux Communication Extérieure Group, said: "Montevideo was the first city in Latin America to hold a full invitation to tender for urban development and we are intending to make this city the showcase in this region of the world for our know-how". This new success in the southern hemisphere is evidence of the capacity of the JCDecaux Communication Extérieure Group to respond to the needs of local authorities in terms of services and information for the public and the development and aesthetic quality of the urban environment. This concession represents a business volume in the order of 577 million francs (€ 88 million). Montevideo is the capital of Uruguay and Mercosur * with a population of 1 200 000.
