JCDecaux SA has indicated its intention to appeal the decision made by French Competition Authorities (Conseil de la Concurrence) to impose a fine for the commercial practices adopted in 1997 at Rennes. JCDecaux will appeal to the Paris Court of Appeal.

The determination of the French Competition Authorities is based on a 1998 complaint lodged by More Group France (Clear Channel) following it’s successful tender for the street furniture contract for the City and District of Rennes.

An administrative tribunal in 2002 revoked the street furniture contract awarded to More Group France for Rennes. This revocation was based on an application of the rules governing free competition which had been violated to the detriment of JCDecaux. The tribunal ordered the City and District of Rennes to declare the contract with More Group France null and void. No further action has been taken by any competent authorities concerning this aspect of the affair.

JCDecaux will participate in any request for tenders which may be made by Rennes in the future.
