Art on the Grid is a multi-platform exhibition by a group of 50 New York-based, emerging artists, conceived by Public Art Fund in the spring of 2020 in direct response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Art on the Grid is on view on 500 JCDecaux bus shelters and more than 1,700 kiosks across all five boroughs as New Yorkers emerge into a changed social and cultural landscape. Groups of works by multiple artists can be seen along bus routes and walking itineraries, creating new art viewing experiences by transforming the city into a free open-air art gallery.
As of July 27, 40 new artworks are now on view on 400 bus shelters and across the kiosks network. They follow the June 29 unveiling of the work of ten artists that remain on view on 100 JCDecaux bus shelters. These 50 artworks on 500+ platforms citywide are on view through September 20, 2020.
In partnership with NYC & Company, our spaces typically reserved for advertising and public messaging serve as temporary canvases for the 50 artists to showcase their new works, encouraging the public to revisit their communities and explore the city. Through its ongoing partnership with the Public Art Fund and other programs, JCDecaux provides a place for artistic voices to reach our shared urban communities.
